ACRS Annual Conference - Student Travel Subsidy

The ACRS will provide travel grants to subsidise travel by students to the Annual Scientific Conference in Darwin from 25 – 28 September 2009. The amount awarded will be determined on a pro rata basis depending on the distance to be travelled and the number of applicants. Registration at these conferences is already subsidised for students. Students must be presenting a paper or poster.

Students must submit their abstract for the Conference through the normal online registration process outlined in the Call for Papers. Applications for travel awards MUST consist of a SINGLE ELECTRONIC DOCUMENT, therefore applicants must arrange access to a scanner if required in advance of the closing date for applications and not consisting of more than 2 pages.

Applications must include:

* a copy of the abstract and date of submission
* a short paragraph explaining why the student should be selected for one of the awards
* an estimate of the cost of return travel to the Conference based on the most economical fare
* details of other sources of funding available for travel to the Conference
* a copy of the student’s ACRS membership receipt (or a copy of their application for membership/renewal, or alternatively an email confirming your membership from the Treasurer) for the membership year in which the conference is being held. Click here for application details.

Applications must be emailed to Pat Hutchings by 15th June 2009 (pat.hutchings@austmus.gov.au) with a cc. to Dr Zena Dinesen (zenadinesen@optusnet.com.au) and Dr Barry Russell (ichthys@aapt.net.au). Successful students will be notified within approximately 3 weeks of close of applications and an electronic payment will occur after attendance at the Conference.

Eligibility

For a student to be eligible to receive some travel support, each of the following criteria must be met. The student MUST:

1. be currently enrolled at an Australian university and working towards a PhD or MSc on a topic involving research on coral reefs
